Youth volunteering and work experience

As part of our youth programme we run short-term volunteering and work experience placements for young people aged 15-18. Priority will be given to young people who live or study in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Young Volunteer Projects

We run 1-week and 2-week Young Volunteer Projects at three times throughout the year during school holidays: October, February and August. To take part you must be aged 15-18 and live or study in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Work Experience

We provide a special 1-week work experience programme for school students from the Royal Borough of Greenwich throughout the year. Students spend time working across a variety of departments to gain a broad insight to different types of careers in the arts and heritage sector. Saturday Art & Design Club

Learning Space, National Maritime Museum

Saturdays 10:00-13:00

Starting Saturday 22 September 2018

Art & Design Club is part of the National Saturday Club network and is our weekly creative drop-in for young people aged 13-15.  

What does it involve?

Each week you will explore a range of creative skills from painting to sculpture, photography to textiles. You will produce your own work that will feature in a public exhibition during the summer and complete a Bronze Arts Award.

Do I need to bring anything?

No. All materials will be provided. You’re welcome to come along by yourself or bring some friends.

Does it take place every Saturday?

No. The club takes place during the first 2 terms of the school year.

Term 2

Every Saturday from 12th January to 9th February

Every Saturday from 2nd March to 30th March

Do I need to attend every session?

No. Just come along on the Saturdays that suit you. To get the most out of each session, it is important to come on time and regularly.

Do I need to book and how much does it cost?

All sessions are FREE and there is no need to book.

Youth Collective

Learning Space, National Maritime Museum

Saturdays: 12pm-3pm

Join a diverse team of young people aged 16-24 at the National Maritime Museum working to produce and deliver creative festivals, events, talks and drop in workshops on behalf of the museum. The first event will be a youth take-over of the Queen’s House in July.

Joining the Youth Collective at the National Maritime Museum will offer you the chance to:

  • Work alongside a range of different artists, curators, practitioners and cultural leaders
  • Create and plan innovative projects, events and career-driven workshops. 
  • Add invaluable skills to your CV
  • Be part of a creative group of young people working towards making positive creative changes in our communities
  • Get connected to a network of opportunities for working in the cultural sector
  • Gain a platform to launch your ideas

Requirements

No experience is required. We want 16-24 year olds who are interested in gaining creative skills to improve opportunities for young people in the museum sector.
